On September 25, the "International Infrastructure Green Investment and Financing & The 12th ESG Training Session for the International Contracting Industry," jointly organized by the China International Contractors Association (CHINCA) and the WWF (Switzerland) Beijing Representative Office, was successfully held in Beijing. As a professional institution in the field of environmental and social compliance, EED was invited to attend and deliver a thematic presentation, offering forward-looking and practical specialized training to the participating company representatives.
With increasing global emphasis on sustainable development, the Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) continues to evolve, placing higher standards on Chinese companies going global. In this context, Dr. Shi Lu from the International Strategic Cooperation Department of EED delivered a thematic presentation titled "Multilateral Development Banks' Environmental and Social Framework and Contractor Response Strategies," providing clear guidance for enterprises to accurately understand international rules and optimize management practices.
In her presentation, Dr. Shi Lu keenly identified key industry challenges and systematically analyzed the latest changes and tightening trends in the environmental and social policies of major MDBs such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). She particularly emphasized the increasing requirements for the compliance of engineering contractors themselves and their supply chain management. Dr. Shi pointed out that ESG management has transitioned from a "soft indicator" to a "hard threshold" affecting project success. Strong environmental and social risk management capabilities are increasingly becoming key factors for Chinese companies to secure high-end projects, avoid major risks, and achieve high-quality development.
Based on extensive project experience, Dr. Shi Lu provided practical advice for companies covering the entire project lifecycle from bidding, construction, to operation and acceptance, using a series of concrete cases. She highlighted the importance of establishing internal ESG management systems, scientifically preparing environmental and social cost budgets, and adhering to integrity and compliance, thereby supporting companies to advance steadily in their internationalization process.
As a professional service organization deeply engaged in the field of sustainable development for MDBs-related business, EED is consistently committed to supporting Chinese companies on their international journey. In the future, EED will continue to leverage its professional expertise to provide robust support in areas such as ESG strategic consulting, compliance system building, risk auditing, and talent training, helping Chinese companies enhance their competitiveness in the global infrastructure market and build a responsible "China Construction" brand.
