Environmental Consulting Empowers Green Healthcare: EED Supports Mercury-free Medical Technology in Achieving “International Advanced” Certification

Recently, the Energy and Environmental Development Research Center (EED), while providing management consulting services to Dong E E-Hua Medical Technology Co., Ltd. under the GEF project “Demonstration of the Production Phase-out of Mercury-containing Medical Thermometers and Sphygmomanometers and Promotion of Mercury-free Alternatives in Medical Facilities in China”, successfully supported its core product—the Gallium–Indium–Tin Thermometer—in passing the scientific and technological achievement evaluation organized by the All-China Environment Federation (ACEF). The product was granted “International Advanced” certification.

This milestone not only demonstrates that this mercury-free product technology has entered the ranks of leading global green technologies, but also underscores EED’s professional consulting expertise in the fields of medical health and public health services.

The Gallium–Indium–Tin Thermometer is an environmentally friendly and non-toxic green medical product that is safe for human use. Its successful development and application are of great significance for China in fulfilling the Minamata Convention on Mercury and phasing out mercury-containing products. In terms of material innovation, gallium–indium–tin liquid alloy replaces mercury as the temperature carrier. It features low volatility and excellent chemical stability, is less affected by external environmental factors, and meanwhile provides a user experience similar to that of traditional mercury thermometers, thereby aligning better with user habits. From an environmental perspective, the product generates no heavy metal pollution throughout its entire life cycle, eliminating at the source the potential risks of mercury to the ecosystems and human health, and truly achieving safety, sustainability, and environmental friendliness. Its recognition as reaching an “International Advanced Level” is not only an authoritative endorsement of its technological strength, but also a model of innovation in the deep integration of China’s environmental protection industry with the medical and health sector.
